Prohire Supplies Tractor Units to SW Group Logistics

Commercial vehicle contract hire and fleet management company, Prohire Limited is supplying a further 14 tractor units to third party logistics company, S W Group Logistics. The first seven vehicles went into operation in January with the balance being delivered in March.

The DAF XF480 6×2 tractor units have been supplied on a 36-month contract term by Prohire, including full maintenance, tyre replacement and relief vehicle provision. The vehicles are FORS silver and Crossrail compliant and include numerous operational and safety features, including the latest generation drivetrain for optimum fuel efficiency, adaptive cruise control and a full health and safety catwalk. The SuperSpace cabs have luxury seats and Truckphone with Bluetooth connectivity.

Barry Smith, Fleet Manager at S W Group Logistics, explained, “We chose the higher vehicle specifications for our fleet to help drive sales as we have definitely found that a smart efficient truck fleet, offering reliable service wins us contracts. It also provides us with some future proofing as the industry evolves, as well as allowing us a better margin at the end of the contract because the vehicles have a higher residual value.

“High specs are also a driver recruitment and retention tool. The S W Group Logistics team appreciate a smart-looking vehicle that is regularly maintained, and the overall vehicle presentation attracts new staff.”
S W Group Logistics is a third-generation family company and has been trading for over 60 years. It offers third party logistics as well as warehousing and pick pack operations, delivering goods anywhere in the UK and Europe. It has six depots across the UK, over 65 vehicles and an annual turnover of over £17 million.

Barry added, “We have trialled many vehicle manufacturers and a number of suppliers to find which one worked best for our needs and both DAF and Prohire are well embedded into our business. Like all other transport firms, we are having to diversify to cover the increasing costs of fuel, insurance and more environmentally-friendly vehicles, which is why we have chosen Prohire to provide us with our fleet vehicles. Prohire offers a complete package from initial rental to breakdown cover and maintenance at very competitive rates. The vehicles are regularly maintained, any downtime for maintenance can be scheduled in advance and any breakdowns are swiftly covered by standby vehicles, delivered anywhere in the country.”

Andrew Morley, Group Sales Director at Prohire who concluded the deal with the S W Group Logistics commented, “Prohire works well with S W Group Logistics and it is delighted to be supplying new vehicles. “S W’s strapline is “Committed to Service” and it’s important to Prohire to align its values and culture to that of such a longstanding and valued customer.”

Quick Turnaround by Prohire Maintains Delivery Service

Steel stock and fabrication specialist William Twigg of Matlock, Derbyshire holds more than 35,000 engineering, hardware, plumbing and building lines and prides itself on its free next working delivery. So, when one of its stores’ vans came to the end of its life rather more suddenly then expected, smooth operations could have been put in jeopardy. Fortunately, having in the past sourced both heavy and light commercial vehicles from commercial vehicle contract hire and fleet management company, Prohire Limited, the company approached Prohire again to see if it could help with a fast turnaround.

As a result, Prohire was given ‘a matter of days’ to source a new van that was fully customised to suit William Twigg’s delivery operation complete with sign-writing, all ready to fulfil a new operational requirement. Having received the enquiry Prohire presented a competitive quote, agreed the order and delivered the fully completed vehicle within ten days.

General manager at William Twigg, Craig Anthony commented, “Prohire’s service was brilliant. When you offer fast, frequent delivery for steel stock and fabricated steel, it’s critical that the vehicle used exactly meets our needs. Prohire was super-fast in supplying the perfect solution with no issues whatsoever.”

Andrew Morley, Group Sales Director at Prohire commented, “Sourcing bespoke commercial vehicles is very much a Prohire speciality and it was great to be able to support a customer in this way in what otherwise could have been a difficult situation.”

Prohire Strengthens Temperature Controlled Sales Team

Commercial Vehicle Contract Hire and Fleet Management Company, Prohire Limited, has strengthened its sales team with the appointment of Maria D’Andrea as National Sales Manager. Maria will spearhead Prohire’s drive into the temperature controlled market.

Heading up Prohire’s temperature-controlled sales drive, Maria is tasked with expanding the company’s presence in chilled and frozen food distribution, into catering and retail, and in pharmaceutical distribution.

Maria has many years’ experience as well as extensive knowledge of this specialised sector.

Commenting on the appointment, Andrew Morley, Prohire’s Group Sales Director, said: “We are very excited that Maria is joining Prohire at such an exciting time as our business continues to go from strength to strength in this very key sector. We are investing in new fleet equipment for temperature-controlled distribution as well as expanding our sales team and with Maria’s proven track record in this field, I’m confident that she will be able to deliver our strategy for continued growth.”

Looking forward to her new challenge, National Sales Manager, Maria D’Andrea said: “Prohire has been in the business for over twenty years and is very well respected for excellent customer service in all areas, so I’m excited about the opportunities that my new role presents. Where Customer Service Really Counts

Published in Frozen & Chilled Foods Magazine, Sept/Oct 2018 Edition:

When it comes to distribution and transport, every market sector rightly demands reliable customer service standards, but with the extra pressure of potentially perishable products as a daily consideration on top of normal delivery expectations, the frozen and chilled foods sector is a special case.

One Commercial Vehicle provider, which is gaining a particularly strong reputation for meeting the industry’s exacting standards is the Prohire Group. It provides both contract-hire and rental solutions to this uniquely demanding industry and now has many instantly recognisable customers within frozen and chilled distribution, including several recent new customer wins. For over twenty years Prohire has earned an enviable reputation for supporting both local and national blue-chip, multi-location commercial vehicle fleet operators of both refrigerated and ambient vehicles where fleet uptime and compliance are of absolute importance.

It established its service credibility back in 2004 in a very different but equally demanding industry, managing a fleet of over 400 custodial vehicles with complex chassis and body specifications including bespoke ancillary equipment. Due to the nature of the customer contract it called upon extremely high standards of service support, as a scenario such as a specialist heavy commercial vehicle with 24 detainees plus a driver and guard being stranded on a busy motorway was an unthinkable situation and perfectly illustrates the vital importance of fleet uptime including response times to breakdowns, first time fix and VOR progress chasing, all of which Prohire prides itself upon delivering.

Since this definitive test of Prohire’s customer service abilities, the company has more than doubled its fleet size and turnover because of both organic new business growth and through the acquisition of several strategic and complementary businesses. Frozen and chilled is one of the areas in which it now specialises. With many years of experience managing 300 plus temperature controlled fleets with major food manufacturers and retailers, one acquisition was especially significant. Sunrent, one of the UK’s foremost temperature controlled vehicle suppliers supplying nationwide customers from its base in the South East, really strengthened the Group’s capability and presence within the refrigerated and frozen distribution sector. Prohire is now forging ahead with further investment in new refrigerated rental vehicles to cover customers’ needs across contracted or cyclical business.

Sector specific knowledge, experience and capability is more than supplemented by Prohire’s overall approach to its customers’ business. It takes a consultative approach to specifying vehicles (optimum payload and refrigeration properties), demonstrable cost savings, and industry leading national first time MOT pass rates. Unsurprisingly, Prohire is the only commercial vehicle contract hire and fleet management provider in the country to have attained the government backed Customer Service Excellence accreditation.

In addition to providing both long term contract-hire and rental solutions, Prohire provides full maintenance and compliance service agreements to businesses which own their vehicles. The company also has its own specialist in-house accident management product branded ‘FleetLogic’ which provides a nationwide vehicle and bodywork repair management guarantee, providing a very responsive and cost-effective solution. This covers everything from completion of a First Notification of Loss report directly with the driver, recovery of the vehicle including load repatriation, through to the timely return of the repaired vehicle. As an example, one refrigerated vehicle operator, who recently experienced an unfortunate incident where a driver was side swiped by another vehicle and went on to its side was delighted to discover that the vehicle had been recovered within the hour, the load repatriated to its nearest depot, and then transhipped and onward delivered to its customers, all before the refrigerated operators’ customers even realised an incident had occurred!

Commenting on Prohire’s commitment to frozen and chilled food distribution, group sales director, Andrew Morley said, “One of the keys to our success in this sector is the significant investment made in fleet management and compliance systems. This means Prohire customers can view all critical compliance documentation such as PMIs, LOLER, MOT and ancillary equipment maintenance online, including fridge units as well as being able to view bespoke service planners. It’s great to be able to say that the company has industry-leading key performance standards including 98% plus new vehicle delivery satisfaction, and 9.2 (out of 10) in a recently completed Net Promoter Score customer satisfaction survey.
Many of Prohire’s innovations are good news for customers across the board, but frozen and chilled food distribution is a very specialist sector. If you are looking for a commercial vehicle fleet provider that has real knowledge and awareness of the customer service issues, combined with experience and a commitment to adding value, then it will be worth giving Prohire a call, to discuss any aspect of frozen and chilled food distribution.”
