ProBulletin – London Direct Vision Standard (DVS) Legislation Update

From 26th October 2020, all HGVs more than 12 tonnes (GVW), operating or entering in Greater London will need to hold a valid HGV Safety Permit and the on-line application process is now live, enabling operators to check their vehicles’ star rating and to apply for the permits.

The Direct Vision Standard and HGV Safety Permit for HGVs is part of the Mayor of London’s ‘Vision Zero’ plan to eliminate all deaths and serious injuries on London’s transport network by 2041.

Applying is free of charge and operators will be granted a permit if the vehicle/s meets the minimum DVS star rating. If the vehicle/s do not meet the minimum DVS star rating, Operators will need to make their vehicle/s safer by fitting them with Safe System improvements.

The Prohire Team are on hand to help you through the process, from assisting in applying for the permits, through to our Engineering and Account Management Teams working with you to modify your vehicles in compliance with the Direct Vision Standard star ratings.
